Harmony between inside and out

When our interior spaces are congruent with the natural environment around them, we feel a deep sense of connection to the living world outside. This connection actively supports our relationship with the wider circle of life.

WyldRooms are designed to maximise this congruence—their circular form, natural materials, and earthy textures harmonise with the living world outside. At the same time, they're cosy, relaxing, comforting spaces to be in, and finished to a high quality with character hardwoods, earth-plasters and natural paints.

Wildcrafted with love and natural materials

WyldRooms are built with respect for the land and care for the circle of life. The main materials used in their construction are all natural, genuinely sustainable, and locally sourced. These include:

Straw-bales

Straw-bales are a marvellous building material. They're super insulative, breathable, fire-retardant, and, being a by-product of cereal farming, carbon negative. Straw-bales are stacked like giant golden building-blocks to form the circular wall of a WyldRoom.

Roundwood

Coppiced roundwood is one of the most sustainable sources of timber possible. Poles are cut every 15-20 years and the trees then regrow from the base. Our roundwood is coppiced Sweet Chestnut from lovingly managed woods in West Sussex. We use it in the roof structure of WyldRooms.

Sawn timber

Sawn timber is used to create the insulated wooden platform on which the body of the WyldRoom sits, as well as the floorboards and window and door casings. We source our timber from a wind-powered sawmill that cuts sustainably managed larch and douglas fir from woods in Devon.

Natural plasters

Lime- and clay-based plasters are traditional building materials that are natural, breathable, and sustainable. Each creates a beautiful and durable cover over the straw-bale wall. The plaster is applied by hand to achieve a highly textured finish onto which natural paints are then applied.

Soil & plants

Soil and plants are transplanted onto the waterproof rubber membrane which covers the wooden roof structure, to create the green living roof of a WyldRoom. Over time, this naturalises to form a flourishing ecosystem replacing the one displaced by the footprint of the structure.

Portals into an ancient future

Natural environments shaped the course of our evolution for millions of years. Our lives were lived in direct contact with the shapes and textures of wild earth. But over the past few millennia, we've slowly created a built environment full of hard lines, sharp angles, and cold surfaces that have separated us from the living earth—with disastrous consequences for both people and planet.

Now it’s time to heal that separation and restore ourselves to the circle of life. WyldRooms are designed to support this journey, offering comfortable and yet deeply earthy living spaces that foster a renewed sense of connection and alignment with the natural world.

Book an initial consultation

The first step in a WyldRoom project is a consultation call.

This is a grounded conversation to understand your site, your vision, and the different ways a WyldRoom might come into being for you — whether as a fully managed build or through a more collaborative process.

In the call we’ll explore:

  • the character of your site

  • the size that feels most appropriate

  • how the build might be delivered

  • indicative costs and next steps

This is about ensuring that you have the clarity you need to decide whether a WyldRoom is for you.

Please note: the consultation fee is credited against the cost of your build if you decide to proceed.

Looking forward to chatting with you...
